There are both youth and adult leaders in Mackinac Island Honor Troop 168. The adult leadership is responsible for picking the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), the head youth Scout. The SPL is responsible for selecting the Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (ASPL). The SPL and ASPLs are jointly responsible for selecting the Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders. All leadership selections are done under the guidance of the Troop Scoutmaster and may require an interview. The troop is divided into 5 or 6 patrols of 6 or 7 scouts.
Youth Leadership Positions and Organization:
1 Senior Patrol Leader
3 Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders
5 or 6 Patrol Leaders (depending on Troop head count)
5 or 6 Assistant Patrol Leaders
Interested youth must apply for these positions at the first meeting in January. All experienced MIHT Scouts interested in attaining a leadership position may be required to participate in an interview process.
Adult Leadership Position and Organization:
1 Scoutmaster
8 Assistant Scoutmasters
The Assistant Scoutmasters include the following positions: Kitchen ASM, Assistant Kitchen ASM, Dining Room ASM, Medical ASM, Laundry ASM, Recreation ASM, Service Project ASM, Guide Duty ASM.
The troop is 100% Scout led with adult guidance.
