Thank you for inquiring into Cub Scouting and considering Pack 406. Feel free to visit us in person on September 13th at 6:30 PM at Hope Lutheran Church for an informational session. You will also have the ability to sign up your son(s) at the session.
Pack 406 is comprised of boys in grades K-5. Dens are assigned by grade not age. At the informational session, you will get a chance to meet the Den leaders and your son(s) will have a chance to meet other Scouts in the Pack. Note: Younger scouts such as those in the Lion and Tiger ranks will require a parent to be present at all meetings and events. Parents are needed to support stations during special events and fundraisers.
The pack welcomes all parents to volunteer and there is provided training. Background checks are required (just like volunteering for SVSD).
Time Commitments
Our meetings and events are scheduled on Monday evenings to keep scheduling simple. ScoutLander.com has an online calendar that enables viewing and registration for activities on your computer or smart phone.
Meetings
As a Pack, we meet once a month at Rowan Elementary, typically on the 1st Monday.
Boys in the same grade meet as a “Den” twice a month at our charter organization Hope Lutheran Church, typically on the 2nd and 4th Monday.
There is a planning meeting for the leaders and parents, typically on the 3rd Monday.
Events
We camp (day trips and overnight) around 4 times a year as a Pack.
We also conduct one Pack outing each month. Some of our outings may include fishing, snow tubing, Carnegie Science Center Sleepovers, Pirates games, outdoor movie nights, service, clean up, hiking, and is typically on the 3rd Saturday
We conduct the following highlight program events each year: Pinewood Derby (kit is supplied by the pack), Rain-gutter Regatta (kit is supplied by the pack), Blue & Gold Banquet, and our Summer Picnic/Rocket (kit is supplied by the pack) Launch.
Costs
Families supply the uniform shirt and patches (pack numbers, den number, council), hat, and scout handbook. The pack will provide a neckerchief and slide.
Families pay annual dues, with a discount rate for each additional scout enrolled.
- Dues cover the cost of our meeting spaces, awards, national registration, council insurance, pack charter fees, leader registration, fall and family picnics, and various other program-related expenses throughout the year.
- You may also request a one year subscription to the Scout Life magazine for $12 be added to your dues.
- Families that do not participate in the popcorn fundraiser will incur an additional fee. Fundraising helps the Scouts pay for dues and outings.
Families may choose to purchase optional pack clothing (available for sale typically once a year) to wear in lieu of a uniform for relaxed events. This is known as the "Class B" or "Activity Uniform".
Camps and outings are optional incur additional fees. Some events may require families to provide their own essentials such as tents, sleeping bags, etc.
