All Scouts will need to communicate with Mr. Stocker on how they plan to get to Mackinaw City, and how they will return home the following week.
PARENTS: If you are available and can take more than one Scout to or from Mackinaw City with you, please contact Mr. Stocker. Drivers are needed to assist in getting the troop transported. This helps the Troop keep the cost of the service camp affordable.
Getting to Mack Island
You have the option to travel to Mack City on your own or car pool with the Troop.
If you are car pooling with the troop and leaving with the Troop from Marysville on Saturday, July 27, 2019, plan your arrival at Gaws Gourmet Foods (located behind 1305 Gratiot Blvd, Marysville, MI 48040 and across the street from Thuet Building Products) no later than 4:00 AM to get your gear loaded into the trailer. We will be leaving Marysville promptly at 5:00 AM.
You may stop for a quick breakfast at the West Branch McDonalds.
The Troop will meet in Mack City around 10:00-10:30 at the new Star Line dock location (formerly the Arnold Transit dock) located on the dockside of 801 S Huron Ave, Mackinaw City, MI 49701. The Troop will be assembling near the big white tent located in the dockside parking lot. We will not be meeting behind Ember's Restaurant as in prior years.
Bring a lunch with you to Mack City! We will not be eating again until 7:00 pm on Saturday.
Ferries will be running every 15-30 minutes on the morning we arrive in Mack City. Depending on the timing of the departing Troop from Mack Island, Troop 168 will LIKELY take the noon Star Line ferry from Mack City to Mack Island.
DO NOT USE plastic bags to carry clothes, pillows, or sleeping bags!! They are too light for the windy ferry trip over to the Island and will likely end up at the bottom of the Mackinac Straights.
Coming back home:
On the day of departure, the Troop generally crosses back over to Mackinaw City around 12:00pm - 12:30pm. (The time of arrival back to Mackinaw City is dependent on the ferry schedule, and on how well the Scouts have cleaned the Barracks on Friday and Saturday.)
The Troop meets up behind Ember's Restaurant and then all Scouts are required to check with Mr. Stocker before leaving. (Even if that Scout is departing with parents.)
Any Scout needing a ride back home from Mackinaw City needs to work with Mr. Stocker by our May meeting to get assigned to a car pool.
As a car pool nears home, Scouts will call parents to arrange a meeting point. Depending on how many Scouts are in the car pool, where Scouts live, and etc., the driver may drop the Scout off at home, or he/she may ask that parents meet them somewhere.
If for some reason, there was not enough room in the car assigned to bring the Scout home, the Scout's gear will travel with the Scoutmaster or one of the Assistant Scoutmasters. Arrangements can then be made to pick up the gear afterwards.
